The ship is absolutely beautiful! But with all of the up charges given to guests to try to experience everything or at least more, it’s a bit of a bummer. The perk of a cruise vacation is paying a good set price for the experience.

please do a video about the classism on ships lately. very interested in the topic. i personally am against it but clearly its working for the companies. would be fun to see a comparison of how much each line milks the top spenders in terms of what the top suite offering is vs cost. Wonder if Disneys is still the most expensive. also wonder if any companies have egregiously bad reward system /loyalty club perks. seems like those have gone downhill in the recent times too. even that "concierge" status screams ripoff.

not FL but CA my mom wanted to take me to either Disney or Universal and i did maybe half an hour on research before deciding i didn’t want to buy my mom through the potential nightmare of booking a disney trip and trying to make in enjoyable for both of us. We paid i think 20 extra dollars per ticket for early access to Super Nintendo World (mostly just so we could get in before the crowds) and had a blast and stayed all day. In the past my mom and i would’ve LOVED a disney trip and i bet if it was still run how it was when i was younger we’d still love it now but, i “i don’t want to think about the money or the hassle” is unfortunately becoming a very common sentiment when it comes to disney

We sailed on Celebrity Edge last summer in the western Mediterranean and thought it was a wonderful ship. We had a Sunset Veranda (rear facing) and it was awesome. The ship definitely benefits from warmer weather for all of the outside spaces, as the ship never felt overly crowded while in Europe. We found the food to be generally excellent, sorry yours wasn’t. I would potentially attribute it to the brand new rotation of crew members for your sailing getting their footing. We also sailed right next to Edge last month in Alaska (its 2nd sailing) while aboard RC Ovation of the Seas, round trip from Seattle. We found the same issues with indoor spaces being packed all the time because it was just too cold outside. Especially with Windjammer Cafe, which was legit unbearable at times. Overall though, the cruise itself was great and we had fantastic weather.

One time you cruised on a decent ship with outstanding service and food . Now it’s a spectacular ship with lots of restaurants and shops that you pay for .I liked Celebrity when it belonged to Chandris when they were classy ships like The Century,Mercury, and they were a luxurious cruise not this Royal Caribbean floating Mall . The average cruise was 14 plus now it’s six days to possibly eleven days.

My friend was on this sailing in Aqua Class. He sent pictures of Dawes and the ship looked so far away compared to my sailing on Norwegian Jewel. I have some great footage of some calving and the sound is incredible. As a smaller ship we were able to get so close compared to the large ships I’ve been on. Looking forward to seeing more glaciers on my 2025 sailing.

Concierge class is definitely not worth it. The retreat was cool is grossly expensive. Aqua class however, is absolutely fantastic and has become the only way we go on Celebrity. Just for the Blu restaurant alone. (Edit: have not been on an edge ship yet. My experiences are based on millennium class and solstice class both pre-and post pandemic)

Hey Jake I would like you to talk about the Haven (NCL version) and the other premium options. Curious your take on the pros and cons. Due to some weird circumstances I took the NCL cruise staying in the higher tier Haven area in October 2019. Seattle, Victoria, Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan. It was great but I am more of a balcony standard kind of guy. We are 5 years on from that almost so I would be curious to hear your thoughts as an expert. Thanks

The segmenting of space into premium/standard is deeply problematic because the lines control both sides of the equation - the more they crowd the standard spaces, the more you feel incentive to pay for premium. There literally is no downside for them to continue and expand this trend. Until passengers revolt and push back by simply not booking. Unlikely to happen anytime soon. You absolutely should deep dive on this, and I would love to see articles spun off your story that bring the practice into question.

I would definitely love to see a video on how public space keeps getting cordoned off in favor of exclusive spaces. Like with the upcoming Utopia of the Seas, they removed the public spaces above the bridge wings and turned that into a suite, taking away that genuinely cool area for every other guest on board.

$40,000 is wild lol, but the views were nice, food being mid is a bummer, and the up charges were kinda ridiculous considering you’re already paying more. But great video, I appreciate you covering these travel destinations!

Very cool ship design, but compared to Holland America’s ships, especially the Pinnacle-class, those pool spaces are not designed well for Alaska. On HAL’s Pinnacle-class ships, the entire two-story main pool area is covered by a retractable roof that can close and create a whole useable public space. I think the Edge-class has more spaces with windows however (makes sense, it’s a physically bigger vessel).
